DA Guest: Madison County Drug Dealer Recieves 120-year Sentence. Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Jermaine Mitchell was found guilty of selling drugs within 1500 feet of a church by a jury of his peers and was sentenced to 120 years in Jail.

On August 1, 2009, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received information that a “confidential informant” was prepared to purchase $40 of crack cocaine from the defendant. The source called Mitchell, asking to purchase the drugs, and was told to come to Mitchell‘s Canton home. Officers fitted him with a video recording wire, and gave him $40 in official funds.

Officers followed the informant until he arrived at Mitchell’s residence.  The informant then went inside the residence were the buy money was exchanged for the crack cocaine.  After the transaction occurred the informant met law enforcement and turned over to officers the cocaine he had just purchased from Mitchell.  The transaction took place within 1,500 feet of Ark of Safety Ministry Church.  Mitchell was later arrested on this sale case and another sale that he had previously made.

Guest stated, ‘This case is another reminder of the consequences faced by those who continue to sell drugs in our communities.  Mitchell has been convicted three times previously for selling drugs, and was on probation at the time these new sale cases were made.   We must continue to send the message that we will not allow habitual drug dealers to continue to operate in Rankin or Madison counties.”

Guest stated “Jermaine Mitchell is a habitual offender who thought nothing of continuing to supply cocaine.  To make the situation worse he was selling that cocaine within sight of a nearby church.”

Guest concluded, “The Madison County Sheriff’s Department conducted a text book investigation and removed from our streets an individual who had been dealing drugs for years.   I cannot thank Sheriff Toby Trowbridge and his department enough of all their hard work in fighting to stop the spread of crack cocaine in our communities.”

Jermaine Mitchell has been previously convicted of Sale of Cocaine in Madison County in cause number 2003-0331, Sale of Cocaine in Madison County in cause 2003-0332, and Sale of more than an ounce of Marijuana in cause number 2007-0212.

District Attorney Michael Guest took office in January 2008, and represents the Twentieth Judicial District, Madison and Rankin Counties.  For more information about the District Attorney’s office, please visit www.daguest.com.
