DA Guest: Madison Man Receives
15-Year Sentence for Purse Snatching

Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Jimmy Lee Fisher, Jr. of Madison received the maximum 15-year sentence for robbery through a plea agreement.

Guest stated, “Fisher is a prior convicted criminal who had only been out of prison for less than 60 days before he stole the victim’s purse. With the maximum sentence of 15 years, Fisher will stay behind bars and will not be able to commit another crime. Career criminals, like Fisher, will not escape the penalties for their crime.”

In October 2007, the victim was leaving an apartment with a friend when she was approached by two males. Fisher grabbed the victim by the arm and wrestled her purse away. The victim’s friend chased the two males and saw them leave in a vehicle with a personalized tag. The Ridgeland Police Department responded to the victim’s call within two minutes and relayed pertinent information to other law enforcement officials.

In a matter of minutes, Fisher was stopped by Reservoir law enforcement. The Ridgeland Police Department escorted the victim and her friend to the location where Fisher was stopped. Both the victim and her friend identified Fisher as the one who stole the purse.

Fisher’s car was searched and a cell phone was found. The victim later identified the phone as being her phone. Fisher and his co-defendant were arrested.

Fisher later confessed to robbing the victim at Sunchase Apartments.

Guest concluded, “The victim was able to supply law enforcement with information that quickly led to Fisher’s arrest. This case is an outstanding example of how law enforcement from different jurisdictions, working together can remove criminals from our streets.”

District Attorney Michael Guest took office in January 2008, and represents the Twentieth Judicial District, Madison and Rankin Counties. For more information about the District Attorney’s office, please visit www.daguest.com.
